This one may seem a little unexpected.  Not just because it’s the first blog entry in a while, but because it’s on the whole facial care thing, which is usually outside of what I talk about.  It is a new thing in my life though, so it fits with the whole “ramblings on entertainment and life” focus.  Plus, I’ve been wanting to get more variety in my posts, so there’s that as well.  Also, I just finished doing a quick little facial mask and figured I’d go into this.  With that said, let’s begin.

A couple years ago I made my first face mask.  It consisted of plain yogurt, a few drops of lemon juice, and some egg whites.  I wasn’t too sure how I’d feel after trying this, but once it started tightening, I felt like I was working with unknown forces.  After waiting for the recommended twenty minutes to pass, I rinsed it off and, as I continued the rest of my day, I knew I had stepped into a larger world.

Since then, I’ve been curious as to how other facial masks work and how they feel.  I’ve tried various types with different ingredients such as green tea, dissolved aspirin, mayonnaise, honey, strawberries, and mint leaves.  The strawberry one turned out a little messy, so I might re-visit that one another time.  As for the one with mint leaves, I didn’t crush ’em enough.  I have plenty of ’em in my yard, so I’ll have to try it again.

It’s also recommended to do this sorta’ thing after either a hot shower or a quick facial steam with a bowl of hot water.  Personally, I do prefer the latter, although I have done masks after showers and they work just fine.  Just yesterday, for instance, I tried my first peel-off mask involving bathroom tissue & egg whites after I showered.  I considered using paper towels instead, and when I think about it, I should have used those.  I will use them for my next attempt, as the toilet paper was tearing too easily.  Also, I don’t have a brush to use when applying a mask, I’ve been using my fingers this whole time.  That’s another thing I’ll have to change.

That pretty much sums up all my little adventures in the facial care stuff.  When I was in school, I would use Noxzema, Clean & Clear, or whatever Neutrogena stuff my brothers had.  And while I had the same acne issues other kids had, I never felt all that bothered with it.  Still, I did have a small part of me that wanted to look somewhat decent, so when I found out about the DIY facial stuff, I didn’t hesitate or question it.  The second I read about them, I went to my fridge & pantry and started playing around.

Overall, it’s fun trying this because it is different from what I’d done before.  I like mixing the stuff together and watching it take shape, I like sitting around doing whatever while the mask does its thing, and rinsing it off always feels nice, so it’s a nice new addition to what otherwise would’ve been an ordinary-as-usual day.

Until next time, always stay cool, have fun, and remember that the future begins with you.  Later taters everyone o/
