Earlier the other day, as I went to get some water, I found myself singing Soft Cell’s “Tainted Love.”  Not sure why, I mean it wasn’t forever ago when I last listened to it, but it had been a short while.  And as I kept singing it to myself, I started thinking of other songs I tend to sing.

For me, it varies drastically depending on either my mood or what I’m doing.  Take this for example… one minute I may be feeling lively in that dancing kind of mood and I’ll sing something like The Locomotion, then I could find myself feeling slightly whimsical and singing stuff from a Gilbert & Sullivan musical, and then the next thing I know, I find myself belting out some ABBA lyrics.

Hmm, I get the feeling this could be up there with that entry on dancing, so what the hell.  Let’s just go all out and have fun.

This is one I often find myself singing to myself a lot for some reason, which is strange because I don’t know all the lyrics.  That’s always a funny feeling because if you only know of one or few parts, you’ll find yourself singing only those parts over and over while humming the rest.  You know how people will often go, “You’re driving me crazy with all that singing!” when they hear something over and over?  This is how you’ll make yourself feel if you sing something while not knowing all the lyrics.  But oh well.  Let’s go to the next one!

Ah yes.  You can never go wrong with some Michael Jackson.  It was his birthday just yesterday and he would’ve been 59.  So to celebrate, here’s some Billie Jean!  This one’s an absolute classic.  Regardless of what you may think of him as a person, there’s no denying that the man had serious talent for coming up with catchy music.  One reason I like singing this is that there’s a scene from an episode of ALF where ALF sings it .  Because of that, I often sing this to myself in my best/worst impression of ALF.  Who ever said you can’t sing in a different voice?

As a 90’s kid, I had to put something on the list from that era.  It was either Here Comes the Hotstepper or some Spice Girls, but then I realized, “Hey… there’s one that is infectious enough to enter your head and never leave much like the Ducktales theme, and it’s a total product of its time.”  I am talking, of course, about Ace of Base’s “The Sign.”  I used to listen to their music a lot as a kid, and while many of their other songs are just as good (I personally enjoy “It’s a Beautiful Life” the most), this is the one they’re best known for.  It’s been sung in many TV shows as well as movies like Pitch Perfect.  Once you start singing it, you won’t be able to stop.

I’ve actually been making a list in which I add songs that I’ve found myself singing.  It’s a fairly large list, so entries like this could definitely become a recurring thing as I go through and keep adding to it.  They’re never confined to any certain genre, they’re all catchy and fun in their own ways.

So with all that said, I feel like this is a good stopping point for now. Three songs feels right, but let me know in the comments below which ones you find yourself singing at random times.  They could even be TV show themes!

Until next time, always remember that if at first you don’t succeed… consider getting a book to whack the nearest bug with.  Because sometimes you need to take your frustrations out on something small and insignificant.  See ya later! o/
