I always wanted to try wearing those sunglasses that Morpheus wore in The Matrix. After a while, though, I ditched the idea. Why? One, those sunglasses are probably a bit pricey. Second, it’s just easier to wear the more traditional sunglasses. Third, if I’m gonna dress up as a Laurence Fishburne character, it’s Cowboy Curtis. And lastly, I’m not as cool as Morpheus, so there’s that.

Besides, who’d take me seriously like this?
I actually used to wear sunglasses a lot as a kid. I also used to wear hats all the time, mostly baseball caps. I also wore a lot of jeans. I used to tuck my shirts into my pants all the time, and then I stopped doing that and felt more cool. Then when I got into middle school, I started wearing baggier pants to be more “trendy.” I couldn’t believe that I used to wear jeans and never wanted to go back.
These days, I’m actually wearing jeans again. Funny ain’t it? I don’t like wearing baggy pants anymore. It’s mostly because I’ve been exercising and I lost some weight. I also wear smaller t-shirts. I used to wear large all the time and still have some large ones, but I mostly prefer medium these days. It’s like with the pants, I like to accentuate my slim figure.
As far as the sunglasses thing goes, I do still wear them on occasion. I have orange-ish/red-ish ones that almost look like the ones from K-PAX. Part of me wishes they were more of a pure red so that they’d look like Cyclops’ glasses from X-Men, but I guess I’ll have to live my dream of dressing up like a 90’s comic book stud some other time. Know what I mean?

Random Trivia: The yellow ones are Metroid Prime sunglasses, but the logo faded.
Anyway, I’ve also gone back to wearing hats. Actually, come to think of it, I never really stopped wearing hats. Throughout high school, I wore beanies, and also something that looked a bit like a bucket hat (which some kids, for some reason, thought was a “Gilligan” hat, despite the fact that it wasn’t even the same colour. That’s weird, eh?). One thing’s for sure, I’ve stopped wearing baseball hats. Because of that, it feels weird whenever I try one on.
You know what I do wear, though? I’ve moved onto fedoras. It’s a style I’ve always wanted to wear ever since I was a little kid, what with having watched the Indiana Jones movies and having enjoyed Michael Jackson’s clothing style. This Disney cartoon also must be a reason, and may actually be the first time I ever saw fedoras.
Thing is, I always thought I needed something to match the hat, especially when I’d think of the 1920’s style where people would wear a nice suit while wearing a fedora. It’s a really cool style, and I love that era, but I’ve never really been comfortable with the idea of wearing a fancy suit. Eventually, something convinced me I should just get one and wear it regardless of what clothes I’m wearing. But not just something. Someone in particular made me say, “Screw it, I’m wearing a fedora.”

This guy!
Yep, I used to watch Degrassi. A lot. I feel like my time spent watching it could be a topic for another post, but for now let’s take a look at this guy. Joey Jeremiah is one of my favourite characters from the series. He’s chatty, funny, and has a pretty amusing level of charisma (although I’ll admit, he did get a little too cocky in some instances). He did come off as a little annoying to some characters, and he even managed to show a bit of an edge when he got into fights with a character named Dwayne. In addition to all this, though, he did have a lot of heart and showed that he can be caring. Spoilers, he and Dwayne even mended their rivalry after Joey promised to keep a secret for him.
And of course, Joey almost always wore a fedora. Sometimes he’d wear a beret, but his trademark was the fedora and he’d always wear it with regular casual clothes. His hat even made a brief appearance in an episode of Degrassi: The Next Generation when he let his step-son Craig wear the hat to a dance.
Overall, I loved his style as well as his personality. He’s a fan-favourite for many reasons. By watching him, I realized I should just wear a fedora regardless of whatever else I’m wearing. I mean, every person who’s ever worn a baseball cap has never been forced to wear a baseball uniform just because of wearing a cap, so why not? Sure, I wouldn’t look like a Dick Tracy cosplayer (and I like me some Dick Tracy, but I’ll do that cosplay another time), but in the end, it’s about wearing whatever you want to wear and just having fun.

One day… one day.
And yes, I’m fully aware that some people have some kind of hatred for fedoras. I can understand why. I mean, some people might get a little “showy” or cocky with an article of clothing, accessory, or whatever (and that can be off-putting); but I see that as more of a personality or ego issue. People can act like that with anything, not just clothing & accessories. It’s fine to wear something that gives you confidence (makeup, a piece of jewelry, etc.); but obviously, you shouldn’t let that escalate and make you feel overconfident.
In hindsight, I’m happy with what I wear these days (though more variety in my shirts would be nice). I feel like this post would benefit from photos, but a majority of my t-shirts have Marvel stuff (while others are horror or based on other movies), so you could walk around a Hot Topic and have a pretty good idea of what I dress like. My pants, as I said, are non-baggy and I really like ‘em. As for my shoes, they’re simple running shoes from Champion. Then there’s the occasional short-sleeved shirt I’ll wear over a t-shirt. And while I don’t have many long-sleeved sweaters, I have some of those as well. I mean, I’d have to be insane to not have any during the winter season.

Uh… I’ll stick with beanies though.
My fashion “sense” probably sounds random, and I rarely ever match colours, but I don’t plan on making an appearance on Top Model, so I think I’ll be fine. Funny thing, I used to wonder what it’d be like if I were a model when I was in high school. Weird huh? Anyway, I like how I dress at the moment. Who knows, maybe I’ll eventually find a fancy suit I like, but right now I’m good.
Until next time, always do what you love and be you, not what somebody else wants you to be. I’ll see ya next time! o/
