Let’s just jump right into this. There are two ideas that I was thinking of for the blog a while ago. And lately, they’ve been on my mind a lot. I’m not sure what it is, but with the livestreams that I’ve been doing, plus the weekly blog posts, maybe it’s the fact that I want to bring in more variety and take things even further.
First up, there’s that “Late-night” idea. For those who don’t know, I started brainstorming an idea within this blog post. The idea is for a blog series that would be inspired by late shows on TV. It’s a fun idea and is definitely unique, but at the same time it feels like it would work better as a video. Still, it would be interesting in the form of a blog entry. It would be kind of a light magazine of sorts. I could always try it like that and then, maybe after a while, turn it into a video series to experiment with.
And with my fascination for retro things like public access comedy shows and “video magazines” on old VHS tapes (especially these behind-the-scenes segments from Full Moon Features), it could be really fun to try this and combine things in that style. Plus, I was writing ideas for a variety show a while ago, so maybe I could dig around in my file cabinet and find some inspiration.
Anyway, that’s one idea. Now for the next one.
The second comes from the idea of doing live tweets for movies or something similar, and then providing some kind of commentary or after-thoughts on those live tweets. Not in that YouTube “reaction” video way, but more where I look at my tweets and make jokes about my reactions in a sort of Mst3k way. Basically, I would be making fun of myself and my thoughts, but also having fun reflecting on having watched the movie, similar to how someone can’t stop talking about a movie with a friend after they’ve just watched it.
It probably sounds weird & silly, and it totally is, but that means it’s something I want to try. I feel that this one would definitely work better in video form. Why? Well, imagine if it were a written blog post. Live-tweets during a movie basically last until the movie’s over, so there’s either an hour and a half or two hours worth of tweets. In addition, the commentary could be a little extensive and may even have visual elements where I could show how my mind works during the live-tweets (funny gags could be fun to see in this). So essentially, the whole concept would be way too long for a written blog post.
Obviously, with both of these ideas, I’m leaning into the field of video production and filmmaking techniques. I’ve mentioned in streams and previous blog posts that I really want to dive into that. But since I’ve been looking for a job and have other life stuff going on, I won’t be able to focus on these concepts the way I’d like to if I were to do them as videos. Not yet, at least.
So… maybe I could try them in form of a podcast? It could work. It’d be easier to put together and I have been wanting to do a podcast for a while, so it’d make sense to at least look into this. I’ll look at some old notes and see what I can come up with. It could still be a little crazy, but the format of a podcast will mean it’ll be relatively straightforward and easier to assemble & edit.
I’ll keep you all updated on the Facebook and Twitter with shorter entries regarding this. Thanks for reading! o/
