One thing that’s been on my mind a lot these days is the idea of returning to something after some kind of absence, as well as the feelings behind it. Call it a comeback, return, resurgence, homecoming, whatever you want. There’s a lot I have to say on this, so let’s begin!
A reason I’ve been thinking about this is that I connect to it. I went through almost two years in which I wasn’t blogging, a short period that was more recent, and also a time where I had stopped broadcasting on Twitch for a while before eventually returning to it (the streams are a lot more sporadic these days, but that’s mostly due to how I manage my time). In addition to that, I used to make videos for fun when I was in high school, but my return to that is… still on hold. It’s practically something I could touch on in a whole other blog post. Heh.
Anyway, this topic has been in my head more than usual not only because of my own experiences, but also the experiences of others. A handful of my favourite Twitch streamers, for instance, are returning to broadcasting after their own periods of inactivity. The fact I’ve been able to talk to them has been incredible, but when they would announce that they have to step away for a while, I’ll admit it did hurt a little. A lot of people miss their favourite content creators and it’s perfectly understandable. They’re amazing people and I’m glad that I’ve gotten to know them, but I always respect their privacy. The best that I and other viewers can do is hope that they’re doing well and wish them the best.
Outside of that, this topic also makes me think of how it’s portrayed in some of my favourite TV shows. The episode of The Simpsons where Krusty had a comeback special was a really fun episode with great writing and memorable celebrity cameos. There’s also an episode of The Larry Sanders Show in which Larry and his producer decide to plan a return to their late-night program after Larry supposedly wanted to leave show business. Then, to think of a more common & relatable example, there are people out there who have been unemployed for a while and are looking for work again.
So what is it about all this that piqued my interest enough to where I chose to write about it? Well from own experiences, it’s about what’s inside. Introspection and self-exploration are already helpful no matter what’s going on, but when it comes to this topic, it becomes a great tool. Whether you take a long or short break, it’s not the amount of time that matters. What matters is what you do with that time. You can re-evaluate goals, remember or rethink your values, meditate, write out thoughts, or even talk about it with a close friend. A combination of any or all of those helps a lot during the time of inactivity.
Giving myself a much-needed break from stressing and overthinking things has helped me, and I know others who have gone through the same thing. It may seem tough, and it is, but it’s an opportunity to really think about what you’re passionate about and why. You can decide to change things for the better. Thousands of people everyday learn about how they can re-invent their selves, and that’s what this is all about in the long run. If someone looks in the right places, they can change their life when they do go back into action.
Whatever it is, everyone might feel that, at some point, they need to have time to their self. And like I said, the amount of time doesn’t matter. It can and will vary depending on the person. One might want to spend a year unplugging and thinking things through, while another might feel that they need a couple or a few weeks. But regardless of how long it is, some amount of time is definitely needed. Some time is better than no time at all.
And, of course, when that time does pass; when you do make your comeback, you’ll feel new exciting things. You will feel ready for action. You will feel recharged, eager to do whatever it is you’re passionate about with your ambition greatly multiplied. Overall, you’ll feel a lot happier.
Taking time to explore yourself and grow is important, so make the best with it!
See you next week 🙂
