Fresh off the good vibes from the previous entry, it’s time to integrate TikTok content here. I’ve been having lots of fun filming & uploading stuff, so tonight I’m sharing some of the early ones I filmed and giving y’all behind-the-scenes tidbits. I knew I wanted to get back to making videos (I used to film during my high school years), and I knew I had to start small before tackling larger projects, so it made sense to start posting.

Of course, even simple short stuff has to start small, so what better way to do this than with an easy-peasy Psycho homage?

The best part of having a frozen/microwave dinner isn’t eating it, but stabbing the plastic cover. Don’t believe me? Go mad and then try telling me otherwise. 🤪 #dinner #fun #psychotheme #stabbystab

It’s silly, random, and came from one of those in-the-moment kinda’ thoughts, so it’s quite fitting for me. Also, random note, I didn’t know that everybody’s first TikTok gets a good little boost in views through the algorithm. Had I known of this, I might’ve tried something different, but whatever. I’m pretty sure this frozen plant-based macaroni was nearing or past its expiration date, so it had it coming. Do you agree? Feel free to agree or disagree in the comments below.

Anyway, it only made sense to try something different afterwards so I could get used to the way TikTok’s built-in video editor works, but I ended up trying CapCut for the next one since I wanted to use some cartoon sounds.

It also marks the first appearance of Jonah, the funny little dog from the somewhat obscure/forgotten late 80’s/early 90’s animated cartoon Family Dog. I always liked the idea of working with random little plushies or puppets to make content that looks kid-friendly but is actually a bit twisted and throws people for a loop. So this was definitely me planting the seeds for more stuff like this. I had to do quite a few takes of him falling off the couch since I had to give him enough of a nudge without showing my hand, but that’s what editing is for. Editing couldn’t help me walk without the apple falling off the plate for a few tries, but that’s just physics being physics.

Oh, and Jonah survived this, in case you were wondering. Onto the next one!

After that, I wanted to finally do a unique on-screen reveal of sorts using elements I feel very close to. But first, I had to do a quick and rather strange video to lead into it.

To pass the frick out and get some sleep. It’s a mood sure to make ya feel out of it until the next day. Satisying end, new beginning. ‘Nuff said. 🥱😴 #itsaboutdamntime #endofday #latenight #tired

I loved the idea of doing this p.o.v shot, but had to play around a bit to get the right sort of rhythm for this since I knew it’d be quick. The idea to turn the light off and then plummet onto the bed came to me at the last second, since I was originally gonna just hit the bed with the light still on, but that woldn’t have made sense for the video that was gonna follow this one.

Also, I wanted to do this thing of leaving a little something within the video, a message that’s almost speaking to the viewers. It’s rather subtle, but when I tried it, it felt right.

Then came this one…

@kaseylewis

I wanted to do something different as a follow-up to the previous video. Lighthearted tiktoks are fun and I’ll do more, but I see this as my actual on-screen intro and it’s closer to things I wanna do in full productions. I’ll be playing around with different ideas here, so more is on the way. Stay tuned! #capcut #filmtiktok #experiment #dramatic #thisisme #wakingup

So finally, I have my first true on-screen reveal with a neat sense of build-up to it. This is actually something I had always wanted to do in full form for a 7 minute video or so for Youtube, but at the time, I had a lot of personal stuff I was getting through and could never figure out the right tone I wanted to capture (especially as self-growth became a lot more prominent to me). For this intro, I went with both, the built-in TikTok editor as well as CapCut to make it. I chose the maximum 3 minute recording time since I knew I had a lot of shots I wanted (though some ended up being discarded). Despite working with 3 minutes, I ended up having to split this production up into a couple days or so to really get the editing & shots right.

It probably seems strange especially compared to the more comedic videos, but this video actually has a lot of concepts, ideas and vibes I want to convey in full-length movies. I wasn’t sure how well this audio would work at first, but it’s very close to the type of dramatic and slightly fantastical feeling I wanted to have. The shot of the camera gliding away from the entry was created by dragging the tripod slowly and then speeding it up in post-production. I wasn’t sure how that’d look at first, but the unusual feel of it actually adds to that vibe I wanted to convey. I knew I wanted to end the video with me saying something amusing and bringing some levity, so there were quite a handful of outtakes of me trying different things. This probably seems like an unexpected element, and it probably is, but having some levity combined with cinematic/dramatic intriguing stuff is how I’ve always felt some of my content should be.

I’ll share more behind-the-scenes stuff in another post like this soon. I won’t be doing it for every single tiktok I’ve filmed, just the ones that I feel have something worth going into as far as behind-the-scenes tidbits and trivia go. In the mean time, hop on over to the tiktok page by clicking the link below and check out my other videos.
