Warning:  The following entry is longer than anything else I’ve ever done.  So to break up the text, I’ve decided to post some of my favourite Youtube videos that have nothing to do with what you are about to read, and imagery that may or may not have anything to do with anything at all.  Enjoy.

About a year ago, I started this blog as a way of just winging it and figuring out where to go from there.  It proved to be fun, even if the posts felt a little abstract and silly at times.  But no matter what I was writing, I enjoyed exploring my thoughts and writing them.

Before this, I had a brief run of doing Twitch casts.  I enjoyed it, but I eventually reached burn-out.  I streamed for around four months, but the days throughout those weeks added up and I had to take a break.  That’s where the blog came in, and it’s nice being in a more relaxed medium.

At first, I was writing random little posts in which I would go into on-the-spot thoughts and rambles.  I had a lot of fun with those type of entries, but towards the end of last year, there was a bit of a shift.  I found myself doing more focused entries, starting with the series on comedy writing, and now Tales from the Media Shelf.

Getting to this point hasn’t been easy, though, thanks to a bit of a dry spell and writers block.  There was a point in which I would sit down and try doing the spontaneous stuff only to have that whole “Wait, this doesn’t feel like it’s going somewhere” vibe, erase it, and then start over.  It felt strange trying to zero in on my thoughts without forcing stuff just for the sake of having impromptu writings.  Eventually, I realized that having ready-to-use templates and ideas would help.

I’ve always loved talking about movies, so in a way, Tales from the Media Shelf is one those things I should’ve done from the beginning.  I’m having a lot of fun writing the series so far, and there’s still enough DVDs from the shelf to use for each installment.  I’ll even consider Netflix and TV stuff as part of the series since the Wii and cable box are on another shelf.  There are a lot of movies I enjoy, and some that I still want to watch, so there are plenty of tales out there waiting to be told.

Still, I do miss the freeform nature of those early rambly posts, and I imagine that some people probably liked those because of their unpredictable nature, so I do plan on returning to those soon, possibly as another entry during the week.  I’d need to space it out just enough from Tales, that way I can have enough time to do two entries per week.  I’ll have to wait until I know for sure that I can juggle additional things, but when I’m ready, I’ll tweet an update.  Same goes for any other possible idea for the future.

Speaking of that, I thought about my “Expansion” entry where I talked about various ideas for expanding, a lot of which either slowed down or never came to fruition.  This was largely due to time, but also because I was trying to do too much at once.  I quickly learned (and still need to remind myself) that I should start small and simple so as to not overwork myself.

Overall, it’s definitely been a challenge keeping up with things and balancing usual life stuff.  Plus, I do tend to spend a lot of time with the editing before I upload posts, and I’m sure other bloggers are the same way (just one of those writer things, heh).  But it’s nice knowing that others are enjoying what I’m doing.

My goal has been, is, and always will be to just have fun with creating content.  Whether it’s here, future stuff like returning to Twitch, or getting back into creating videos, there’s a lot I hope to do.  I still have a lot to learn, but getting there will be just as fun as the actual arrival.

Thank you everyone for reading, liking, and following the blog for the last 365 days, here’s to another year \_/.  I love getting my thoughts out here, so I hope everyone’s enjoying the ride.  There will be little updates on my Twitter and larger updates on my Facebook.

So until next time… screw it, I have no words of wisdom this time.  Here’s a song we can dance to if you want to.  ‘Till next time everyone!  o/
